When my husband, Max, and I were first married we had a Saturday tradition. We generally slept in, and when we got up, we would make breakfast together. This was a great time in our lives. We were not overwhelmed by an overly busy schedule with lots of commitments. We had lots of time to just chill together. During this time we often made the same 2 items Frittata and Biscuits. I was in charge of the frittata and Max was in-charge of the biscuits.

In general I am not a huge fan of eggs. Although our parents and brother loved eggs, my sister and I did not eat them at all growing up. As I have gotten older, I have learned to appreciate them more in different forms. The frittata form of eggs is one of my favorite, as some of the egg gets hidden with all the other great fillings. I also love how once you get the ratios down, you can mix whatever items you have on hand, to make this quick and easy breakfast dish.
The first time I made biscuits as a child, I messed them up. I did not understand the concept of cutting the shortening into the dry mixture first, so I mixed all the wet and dry ingredients together and struggled to figure out how to add the shortening in after the fact. Needless to say those biscuits were no good, but with some instruction from my mom, I was able to get it right the next time! Max on the other hand was able to benefit from my insight, so his first time making biscuits was a success. Armed with The Fannie Farmer Cookbook, and all the tips and tricks I picked up over time, Max was able to quickly make a delicious batch of homemade biscuits.
Five years later with a new baby, although we do not often get to sleep in or make breakfast together, I would still say this is a great time in our lives! We are a lot busier, but still manage to find time to chill together. This past weekend, we decided to carve out some of that time to get back in the kitchen together, and take a walk down memory lane, recreating one of Our Favorite Brunch menus.
